Setting up a BA-FGX Fuel Pump Cradle

One of the most common and frustrating things we encounter when a car is having fuel issues is usually improper fuel pump installation.
Showing symptoms of base fuel pressure being too high or fuel flow being inadequate even with a higher flow pump.

Side note : We wont be showing you exactly how we do our installs, this is just a guide. We modify the cradle and a few other extra steps to enhance the setup for higher power mods in the future.

Fuel Pump Selection

The factory fuel pump flow leaves a lot to be desired, they are getting quite old and tired, so we opt to change them very early in the modification process for safety sake.

Your options that fit Falcon Fuel Pump Cradles

  • Walbro GSS342 255lph

  • Walbro 460lph F90000267

  • walbro 460lph High Pressure F90000274

  • Walbro 525lph “Hellcat Pump” F90000285

Walbro GS342 is a perfect 98 pump up to 450rwkw or as a “Lift Pump” to a Surge Tank. We don’t fit them with cars wanting more than 500rwkw as they don’t have a sufficient enough flow to maintain a safe level of fuel in the Surge. Now this won’t present itself as a problem on the dyno, but on the track or street this is can be an issue.

Walbro 460lph “267” is our go to pump, it has really good flow for 98 or E85. The only draw back is they need to be setup correctly as they can overwhelm the factory fuel return system, which would result in the incorrect base fuel pressure.

Walbo 525lph pumps are very impressive! They provide an extremely high flow, but unfortunately they do not suit our factory swirl pot, It’s refill rate is not sufficient and the factory wiring is undersized. These factors mean we don’t recommend them and only fit them in special circumstances.

Required Parts

what we used to fit these installed pumps

The Basic install

Step 1

Cut factory hoses

Step 2

Split the two cradle pieces, Remove the Factory Pump and Old Hoses

Step 3

Remove the Little Black Ventrui from under the Cradle and Drill out the Return and Reinstall

Step 4

Fit Hoses to the Fuel Pump, Fit EFI Clamp and attach Hose to the Return Tube in the Cradle

Step 5

Modify Cradle to suit Pump Base if Required

Step 6

Reassemble Cradle - make sure the spring is fitted correctly

Step 7

Fit Hoses to lid & make sure the EFI clamp is on the Pressure Side before fitting the hose. If you are not sure what is feed and return there are arrows on the top of the lid

Step 8

Fit Pump Wiring to the Factory Plug - Grey is Positive and the Black is Negative

Step 9

Inspect Factory O’Ring as they can swell, Also - There’s a chance the O’Ring could be damaged if you do not clean the seal surfaces before reinstalling the pump, This will only presents itself as an issue once you fill the tank

Step 10

Re-install the pump and check the base fuel pressure test
